All three Armored Core PS1 games are coming to the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog
FromSoftware’s trilogy of PS1 mech games are coming later this year
The first three games in the Armored Core series are coming to the PS Plus Classics Catalog later this year.
As announced during the latest PlayStation State of Play presentation, all three PS1 Armored Core titles will be coming in 2025, but no release date was confirmed.
Sony also confirmed a previous leak, announcing that PSP title Patapon 3 will be coming to the Classics Catalog next week.
Every game in the Armored Core series was developed by FromSoftware, with the first releasing on PS1 in July 1997. The first game saw players taking on missions to earn money which could then be spent on upgrading their Armored Core mech unit.
The second game, Armored Core: Project Phantasma, was released five months later and was designed to be a standalone expansion. It added an Arena mode and the ability to load save data from the first Armored Core and carry it through to the Project Phantasma. It’s not yet known if this functionality will be replicated when the games come to the Classics Catalog.
The third game, Armored Core: Master of Arena, was another expansion released in 1999, and was the last in the series to be released on the PS1 before the first ‘proper’ sequel, Armored Core 2, came to the PS2 the following year.
After more than a decade on the sidelines, FromSoftware brought back the Armored Core series in 2023 with Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which was released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game was critically praised, with a Metacritic score of 86.
