The first Last of Us HBO reaction claims it has ‘strong Blade 2 energy’

The first reaction to the upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us has arrived, and it’s a positive one.

Vulture TV critic Roxana Hadadi tweeted her brief thoughts on the show, and it appears she enjoyed it.

In a now-deleted tweet, Hadadi reportedly stated: “It took five minutes for The Last of Us to win me over entirely.”

A follow-up tweet, which is still active at the time of writing, described the show as having “extremely strong Blade II energy”.

“I am cackling with delight and overcome with emotional turbulence,” Hadadi wrote.

The second trailer for The Last of Us was shown earlier this month, giving players a look at how the show recreates environments from the game.

The show, which stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as its lead characters, will premiere on January 15, 2023 on HBO Max, and a day later on Sky in the UK.

The Last of Us is the first television series from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and TV.

Co-written and executive produced by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog vice president Neil Druckmann, it will cover the events of the first game and may include content based on The Last of Us Part 2.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey portray the show’s lead characters, Joel and Ellie. Nico Parker (Dumbo), the daughter of actress Thandie Newton, is playing Joel’s daughter Sarah, while Gabriel Luna (Agents of Shield) stars as Joel’s brother Tommy.
