The director of Valorant has moved to Bungie
Joe Ziegler says he’s “working on new stuff” at the Destiny studio
The director of Valorant has announced that he’s now working at Bungie.
Joe Ziegler tweeted on Monday that he’s joined the Destiny developer and has already started work there.
“Update – Happy to announce my new home is at Bungie working on new stuff that hopefully will one day get to be played by you all,” Ziegler wrote.
Ziegler is credited as the person who came up with the initial idea for Valorant, which was released in 2020 to critical acclaim and went on to reach over 14 million monthly active players within its first year.
Earlier this month Zeigler tweeted that he was leaving Riot Games, suggesting his job at Bungie had already been secured in advance.
“Hey everyone, I wanted to let you know that after 12 great years at Riot, this week will be my last week,” he tweeted two weeks ago.
“I am departing with a heart full of gratitude for Riot Games and all of you for the amazing memories we’ve shared together. Will update very soon with my next home.”
Bungie is currently finishing off Lightfall, the seventh expansion for Destiny 2, which is set to release on February 28. This will then be followed in early 2024 by The Final Shape, which Bungie says will conclude the first major saga of the game.
Riot announced last year that it planned to release a version of Valorant for mobile devices.
The company said in June 2021 that it was “preparing to expand the franchise – starting with Valorant Mobile – in order to bring Valorant to more players around the world”, although it didn’t confirm when the new version of the game will arrive.
