The developer of Hitman is working on a James Bond game
IO announces Project 007 with a short teaser
IO Interactive, developer of the Hitman games, is working on a game based on the James Bond license, it’s announced.
Project James Bond was announced via a short CGI trailer on Thursday. The game is described as a “wholly original” Bond story that will be powered by IO’s Glacier technology and release for consoles and PC.
A tweet published on the official 007 Twitter later said: “Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game with a wholly original story. Earn your 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story, to be developed and published by IO Interactive.”
IO Interactive’s title will be the first major Bond game release since 2012’s 007 Legends, which was developed by Eurocom and published by Activision.
Project 007 is currently in development at IO Interactive’s offices in Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden, it said.
According to the project’s official website, IO Interactive is currently recruiting “elite talent” to join the team. At the time of publishing it’s advertising for more than 20 roles, including for technical director, lead game designer and executive producer.
“It’s true that once in a while, the stars do align in our industry,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, in a prepared statement.
“Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities. Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
MGM’s Robert Marick added: “James Bond has a strong legacy in the video game space, with some of the most iconic games of all-time based on the character.
“Working with our partners at EON and the talented team at IO Interactive, we plan to bring a new take on this legendary franchise to gamers and Bond fans around the world. IO Interactive are masters of crafting living, breathing worlds of immersive storytelling.”
