Takaya Imamura, the artist behind F-Zero and Starfox, is creating a new game
Switch text adventure Omega 6 will be based on Imamura’s debut manga
The original artist behind Star Fox and F-Zero is creating a new game as an independent developer.
Takaya Imamura, who left Nintendo last year after three decades, announced and released his debut manga this week called Omega 6, which is available to buy only in French for the time being.
Shortly after its announcement, Imamura confirmed a video game adaptation, Omega 6 The Video Game, is in development at Japanese studio Happy Meal and planned to release for Nintendo Switch in 2023.
According to Japanese site 4gamer, the video game version will be a simple text adventure game, with the addition of some battle scenes that players can control. The game will feature an original story based on the manga.
The Omega 6 manga follows main characters Thunder and Kaira, bounty hunters who travel through space in search of a new planet to replace Earth.
In his previous role at Nintendo, Imamura is credited as having designed the Starfox characters Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi and more, as well as Captain Falcon from F-Zero and the cast of Majora’s Mask, including fan-favourite Tingle.
The artist was famously said to have based his creations on his Nintendo development colleagues; Fox was based on Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Falco was based on artist Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Tingle is said to have been based on legendary composer Koji Kondo.
His last title was 2016’s Star Fox Zero, which was created in collaboration with Bayonetta studio PlatinumGames.
