Switch SNES controllers are back on sale in the US
Update: Now sold out
Switch SNES controllers are once again available to buy in the US for Switch Online subscribers, after a lengthy period of unavailability.
The controllers cost $29.99 plus shipping and are limited to four per customer. The European store is still seemingly out of stock.
Nintendo originally opened online orders for SNES controllers in North America in September 2019, before the products went on sale in Europe two weeks later.
UPDATE: The controllers have now sold out, with more stock expected in February.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: But shortly after online orders launched, some users reported having trouble successfully completing purchases, leading to an apology from Nintendo, which said it was “looking into” the problem.
The controllers have remained mostly out of stock since, apart from small periods of availability.
A library of 20 SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online launched in September 2019.
Nintendo subsequently released Switch system update version 9.0.0, making the console compatible with SNES controllers.
The SNES titles currently available for Nintendo Switch Online members include Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Star Fox, Super Metroid, Pilot Wings and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
New NES and SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online will be released “irregularly” going forward, Nintendo has said. Prior to the launch of the SNES library of games for the subscription service, new NES titles were added on a monthly basis.
