Switch Online gets five more Mega Drive games, including ToeJam & Earl
The new batch of Mega Drive / Genesis titles includes Dynamite Headdy and Altered Beast
Nintendo has announced that five more games have been added to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis collection on Nintendo Switch Online.
These include cult favourites ToeJam & Earl and Dynamite Headdy, as well as Altered Beast, one of the first free games bundled with the console during its launch period.
As with the Nintendo 64 games on Switch Online, access to the Mega Drive / Genesis library is only available through the Expansion Pack add-on for the service.
This gives players to a library which now stands at 14 Mega Drive game and 10 Nintendo 64 games.
The five games added to the service today are:
- Altered Beast (Sega, 1988)
- Dynamite Headdy (Sega / Treasure, 1994)
- Sword of Vermillion (Sega, 1989)
- Thunder Force II (Technosoft, 1989)
- ToeJam & Earl (Sega / JVP, 1991)
The Expansion Pack adds Mega Drive and Nintendo 64 games to the existing NES and SNES libraries available as part of the standard Switch Online membership.
Mega Drive games already available include Streets of Rage 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra Hard Corps, Ecco the Dolphin and Gunstar Heroes.
Players can also buy a separate Mega Drive controller that connects to the Switch for a more faithful recreation.
In North America and Europe, the controller is the standard three-button design that was included with the console when it originally launched.
Japan, meanwhile, gets the improved six-button controller that was released in 1993 to coincide with the release of Street Fighter II’: Special Champion Edition.
