Switch just had its ‘best-ever’ console and game sales week in Europe
Nintendo claims Switch broke multiple sales records in late November
Nintendo Switch enjoyed its biggest sales week yet in the UK and across Europe driven by the launch of a new Mario Kart 8: Deluxe hardware bundle for Black Friday.
More Switch consoles and games (physical and digital) were sold during the week beginning November 22 than during any other week since the system launched in March 2017, based on internal Nintendo sales data.
The new hardware bundle, which includes the console, a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and a three-month Switch Online subscription for £259.99, offers a saving of £57 compared to purchasing the products separately, according to Nintendo.
A record number of Switch games were sold across Europe during the week beginning November 15, although the total was then surpassed the following week, Nintendo said.
The November 19 release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl contributed to the success, with the games selling over six million copies combined globally in their first weekend on sale.
The Mario Kart 8 hardware bundle with Switch Online was also sold in the US for Black Friday in 2020 and 2021.
Nintendo said last month that Switch had shipped 92.87 million units and that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was officially the series’ best-selling entry ever with almost 40 million copies sold.
It also said Switch’s unexpected level of success had enabled the company to invest in new business opportunities, including an $880m expansion of its game development capability.
