Switch ended PS5’s 4-month run as the UK’s best-selling console in May
As Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comfortably topped the monthly software chart
Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in the UK in May, boosted by the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
According to GfK data published on GamesIndustry.biz, Switch sales were actually down 5% compared to April, when the special edition Zelda Switch OLED console launched, but were up 28% over May 2022.
The Zelda OLED console accounted for almost 35% of all Switch sales in May, helping Nintendo’s console end PS5‘s four-month run as the UK’s top console.
PS5 sales were down 23% compared to April, with May being the first time this year that sales of Sony’s console fell below what they were during the same period in 2022.
Xbox Series X/S sales declined 10% month-over-month and were also down year-over-year.
Year to date console sales are up 16.6%, with PS5 sales up 81%, Switch sales down 8% and Xbox Series X/S sales down 19%.
On the software front, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was May’s No.1 game based on physical sales alone (Nintendo is currently the only major games company that doesn’t share digital sales data).
Tears of the Kingdom is already the UK’s third best-selling boxed Zelda game of all time, trailing only 2017’s Breath of the Wild and 2006’s Twilight Princess.
Hogwarts Legacy was at No.2 on the monthly software chart following its PS4 and Xbox One release in May, while Lego 2K Drive entered at No.19.
