Switch 2 price will ‘consider the affordability customers expect’ from Nintendo, says president
But inflation and the exchange rate will also affect the Switch 2 price, says Nintendo’s president
The price of the Switch 2 hardware will take into account numerous factors, including Nintendo’s trademark affordability, its president has said.
During a Q&A following Nintendo‘s Q3 financial results, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked about the company’s thoughts on hardware pricing.
Specifically, Furukawa was asked if there was any change to Nintendo’s stance on what constitutes an acceptable price point, given various global economic factors.
Furukawa replied that not only does Nintendo have to take into account Japan’s increased inflation rate, it also has to consider that the exchange rate environment has changed considerably since the Switch launched in 2017.
However, he noted that Nintendo also has to consider “the affordability that our customers expect from Nintendo products”, saying the company needs to take all these factors into account when considering the price of its products.
Furukawa said it was taking all of the above into account when pricing Switch, but that it had nothing to announce at this time. He also said there are no plans to change the price of the original Switch at this time.

Earlier this week Furukawa told Japanese press that Nintendo will put measures in place to prevent resellers from significantly impacting Nintendo Switch 2 launch supplies.
Furukawa said Nintendo has made preparations based on its past experience and planned to prepare enough Switch 2 console inventory to meet demand.
According to an earlier report, Nintendo had planned to launch Switch 2 in late 2024 but “priority was given to ensure the initial inventory of the successor console and a line-up of software titles at the time of its launch” in an attempt to avoid widespread reselling.
