Switch 2 Joy-Con patent shows a potential new controller, also with mouse support
The newly published patent also all but confirms mouse controls for Switch 2
A newly published Nintendo patent for the Switch 2 Joy-Con shows the controller being used as a mouse, as well as diagrams of a potential new controller.
The patent, listed on the World Intellectual Property Organization database with a publication date of today, shows diagrams of the right Joy-Con from various angles.
It also shows the Joy-Con on its side being used as a mouse, all but confirming previous reports that Switch 2 would feature mouse controls.
The patent also shows images of a mysterious pair of controllers, which look like a standard controller divided into two, each with an optical sensor in the side.
According to the diagram, these controllers can also be turned on their side and used as a mouse, but can also be attached together using “an attachment part (not shown)”.
“In this case, the first input device and the second input device may be used as an integrated controller held by both hands of the user”, the patent reads. “Each device may be attached with peripheral devices.”
Nintendo officially revealed Switch 2 last month, with a teaser video showing the console and Joy-Cons.
The trailer appeared to show the Joy-Cons attaching to grips then sliding across the ground, much like a mouse would, before detaching from their grips and attaching to the Switch 2 console.
This lent further credence to previous reports that at least one of the new Joy-Con controllers has an optical sensor in it, similar to the one used by most optical mice.
