Switch 2 game boxes ‘could be 40% larger than Switch boxes’

Boxes for Nintendo Switch 2 games could be over 40% larger than original Switch game boxes, it’s claimed.

According to Universo Nintendo editor Felipe Lima, game cases for the new system will reportedly be  13cm wide and 19.5cm tall, making them taller than a PS5 game case, which is 13.5cm wide and 17cm tall.

This was reportedly discovered thanks to a listing for an unnamed Switch 2 game published by Take-Two Interactive, which was temporarily live on a French retail website. However, it’s not clear how accurate this information is.

A user on Reddit mocked up an image of the alleged new case alongside the current Nintendo Switch case size.

While not confirmed, it’s expected that Nintendo Switch 2 game carts will be roughly the same size as those used by Nintendo Switch,  so this larger box will likely feature even more empty space than the current case does.

It’s been speculated that the Switch 2 carts will feature some kind of physical difference from Switch 1 carts so that they don’t fit in the original console.

Following years of speculation about its next console, Nintendo finally announced Switch 2 earlier this month. It confirmed that the system will launch this year, with a full reveal planned for April 2.

It also announced plans to hold a series of Switch 2 preview events, giving attendees the chance to try out the console before it’s released.
