Super Mario Bros Wonder leapfrogs Spider-Man 2 in this week’s UK physical charts
Spider-Man 2 “comfortably” took the top spot at launch
Super Mario Bros Wonder has leapfrogged Spider-Man 2 to top the UK physical game charts.
Both games were released on the same day, and last week’s chart saw Spider-Man 2 “comfortably” taking the number 1 slot in the UK after its first weekend, with Super Mario Bros Wonder in second place.
Now, according to GamesIndustry.biz, this week’s chart sees Mario taking over, with Spider-Man 2 now sitting in second.
GfK chart data shows that Super Mario Wonder’s sales dropped 55% compared to its release weekend, but Spider-Man 2 had a sharper drop of 69%, allowing Mario to take the lead this week.
As ever, these charts only cover physical sales, so the true UK sales figures for each game – with digital sales taken into account – aren’t known.
Overall, Spider-Man 2 is now the fourth best-selling physical game in the UK for 2023, while Super Mario Wonder is fifth.
Elsewhere in the charts, EA Sports FC retained its third place spot in the charts, beating out new entry Metal Gear Sold: Master Collection Vol 1, which debuted in fourth place.
The only other new entry in the top 10 was EA Sports UFC 5, which came in at number seven.
Nintendo says Super Mario Bros Wonder is the fastest-selling Mario game ever in Europe.
Meanwhile, Sony says Spider-Man 2 is the fastest selling PlayStation Studios game in history, selling through 2.5 million copies worldwide in its first 24 hours.
The last time Sony declared a game its “fastest-selling” at launch was God of War: Ragnarök, which it claimed had sold through 5.1 million copies in its debut week (figures for the first 24 hours weren’t provided).
