Super Mario Bros Wonder is the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever, Nintendo says
The game sold 4.3 million copies in its first two weeks
Super Mario Bros Wonder is officially the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever, according to Nintendo.
In a presentation as part of its financial results briefing for the second quarter of the financial year, Nintendo pointed out the game’s immediate impact.
According to Nintendo’s internal estimates, Super Mario Bros Wonder has sold 4.3 million units globally in its first two weeks on sale.
Nintendo says this makes it the fastest-selling Super Mario title worldwide, at least since software sell-through data collection started in the Wii and DS era.
“Super Mario related titles also tend to sell consistently over a long period of time,” Nintendo notes. “We anticipate this title will be an appealing choice for consumers during the upcoming holiday season and will continue to sell next year onwards as well.”
It had already been known that Super Mario Bros Wonder was the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in Europe, after Nintendo said its first three days saw the most sales of any Super Mario game in that region.
It was also reported last month that the game was the fastest-selling Mario game on Switch in Japan, according to Famitsu data.
This is the first time, however, that Nintendo has officially declared it the fastest-selling Super Mario game worldwide and provided a global sales figure.
VGC’s Super Mario Bros Wonder review says the game “is lovingly crafted, consistently surprising, and a delight to play alone or with friends”.
“If this is what the future of Mario side-scrolling looks like, then we can’t wait to see what’s next,” we said, “especially if future games are assembled with this much heart”.
