Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s live service elements are highly unlikely to be dropped, it’s been claimed.

Last week, a Bloomberg source claimed Warner has decided to push the title from its currently announced May release date to the second half of 2023.

Following the report, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb said a reliable source had told him that the game may not arrive until 2024.

While Warner has yet to comment on reports of a delay, the journalist who originally broke the story has now suggested the extra development time will be used to polish Suicide Squad rather than to rework its live service elements, which attracted some criticism following a gameplay showcase last month.

Rocksteady has not yet announced the Suicide Squad delay, perhaps because there’s still no new date,” Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier tweeted on Thursday. “Staff were told a few weeks ago it’s coming later this year but they still don’t know when. Possible it slips to 2024, but one thing seems certain: the core game isn’t changing.”

A 15-minute showing during a PlayStation live stream in February confirmed that Suicide Squad will feature a battle pass, which Rocksteady claimed would only contain cosmetic items.

An internet connection will also be required to play Suicide Squad solo or via online co-op. “There’s precedent for games dropping that requirement, although I think it can be tricky,” Schreier commented.

Suicide Squad’s anticipated delay and the reaction to its recent showcase was one of the subjects discussed on the latest VGC podcast, which was published on Thursday.

“It’s interesting, because some of the people I’ve spoken to who are working on that game actually have a lot of positive things to say about it, especially compared to Gotham Knights,” said VGC editor Andy Robinson.

“I’ve been told that this is not another Gotham Knights, that everyone who’s working on it is actually quite optimistic about the combat loops they’ve made and the game world and things like that.”

He added: “So from what I’ve heard, I’d kind of be surprised if they’re really rebuilding it in any significant way because it sounds quite positive.”

Suicide Squad was originally planned for release in 2022, but last May the game’s launch was pushed back to spring 2023. And in December, Warner announced plans to release the game on May 26.
