Stray is confirmed for PlayStation Plus Premium at launch

Stray, a game where players play as a cat in a neon-tinged city, will come to PC and PS5 in July, and will be included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on day one, it’s been confirmed.

The game will release on July 19, 2022 and for players in the highest two tiers of PlayStation Plus’s new refresh, will be downloadable for free at launch.

The game, which is being worked on by BlueTwelve, a studio made up of former Ubisoft developers, has been in development since 2016. Stray will be published by Annapurna Interactive.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, Swann Martin-Raget, a producer at BlueTwelve Studio said: “The vision for this game – initially named ‘HK Project’ – started seven years ago by Koola and Viv, the co-founders of BlueTwelve Studio. It really is amazing to see that it is now an actual full-fledged game and will be experienced and hopefully enjoyed by so many players all across the world very soon.”

BlueTwelve Studio has also revealed that the studio had several real-life cats in the studio for inspiration and animation reference. “We even have two cats in the studio working with us almost everyday! They are called Oscar and Jun and – even if they are not the most productive employees to be honest – they definitely add a lot of cheerful liveliness to the studio.”

Originally revealed during PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event in 2020, the game was originally scheduled for release in October 2021 before it was delayed.
