StarCraft lead teases new RTS in documentary, with reveal coming at Summer Game Fest
Uncapped Games says it’s working on a “paradigm shifting RTS”
A new studio helmed by StarCraft 2 multiplayer lead David Kim has teased its debut RTS project, which it says will be revealed during Summer Game Fest in June.
Uncapped Games is a new California-based studio established by developers of strategy classics such as StarCraft, Warcraft, Dawn of War, and Company of Heroes, underneath Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios brand.
In a new documentary video published on Friday, the studio detailed its plans for an RTS game that appeals to a wider audience of strategy players than its developers’ past work.
“Our game concentrates on the core essence of this genre and gets players to the fun of RTS more quickly than ever before,” said Kim.
“Players will define their own way to play, and focus on commanding fast-paced, large-scale battles. Players will enjoy more moment-to-moment strategic decision making in each game, instead of waiting for that next fun action moment.”
The full unveiling of Uncapped Games’ RTS will come at the Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024, it said.
Ahead of the reveal, PC Gamer was able to play the title at Uncapped’s offices, under the condition that it not reveal specific details on the project before its unveiling.
“I can say, however, that I was impressed by the thoughtfulness behind Uncapped’s strategy for reimagining the RTS,” it wrote. “The game could have the juice.”
