‘Starborn’ could be Bethesda’s second Starfield expansion
The publisher registered the trademark this month
‘Starborn’ could be the second expansion for Bethesda’s Starfield, after the company was discovered to have trademarked the name this month.
As spotted first by X user Timur222, Bethesda registered the name with the US Patent and Trademark Office this month for use on video game software.
Starborn refers to – Starfield story spoilers follow – a group of beings who reveal themselves to players after they collect enough Artifacts in Starfield’s main story. The group are humans who have passed through portals and travelled between universes.
Shattered Space, Starfield’s first big story expansion DLC, will be released later this year. In terms of scope, game director Todd Howard has likened Shattered Space to Fallout 4’s Far Harbor expansion.
Recently, Howard has said he hopes to release Starfield story expansions on an annual basis.
“I would say more or less, yeah,” he said when asked by YouTube channel MrMattyPlays if Bethesda plans to release story expansions for the game on an annual basis. “How long that continues [for is uncertain], hopefully a very long time, but we’re planning for the one after this, so there will be another one.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Howard said Bethesda has no plans to “rush” out a new single-player Fallout game to capitalise on the franchise’s current popularity.
