Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s director has his sights set on a trilogy
Stig Asmussen says a third game in the series would most likely be made with Unreal Engine 5
The director of Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi series has said he hopes to make a trilogy of games.
Set for release next month, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of the hit 2019 game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
It continues the story of Cal Kestis, one of the last surviving Jedi Knights, and director Stig Asmussen has said he’d like to see the protagonist’s journey stretch to a third game.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?
“We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”
Asmussen also said it was likely that a third game in the series would see Respawn switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal 5 for development. “I think it’s a pretty safe assumption.”
In December, publisher EA announced that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on March 17, 2023. But the following month, it delayed the release of the third person, narrative-driven action-adventure title by a month and a half.
“For the last three years, the Jedi team here at Respawn has poured its collective heart and soul into Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and we are proud to say the next chapter in the tale of Cal Kestis is content complete,” Respawn said in a statement announcing the delay.
“We are now focused entirely on the final stage: bug fixes to enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience.”
It added: “In order for the team to hit the Respawn quality bar, provide the team the time they need, and achieve the level of polish our fans deserve, we have added six crucial weeks to our release schedule – Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will now launch globally on April 28th.”
