Stalker 2 dev diary shows how the war in Ukraine has impacted GSC Game World

GSC Game World has shared an update on how the war in Ukraine has impacted its employees as well as its upcoming game, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

The studio, which was based in Kiev prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, has since partially relocated to Prague.

Not all of its staff have been able to leave Ukraine, however, with a number of developers continuing to work on the game from the war-torn country, where their lives have been turned upside down.

Other GSC Game World staff have joined volunteering efforts in Ukraine or the country’s armed forces, including lead AI developer Dmytro Iassenev, community manager Oleksii Ivanov, and narrative designer Maksym Hnatkov, who appear in the video below.

Alongside Tuesday’s studio update, GSC Game World also shared a new Stalker 2 trailer titled ‘Enter the Zone’, which is viewable below.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Stalker 2 has been further delayed to 2023.

In January, GSC announced that the game, which was originally scheduled to be released this April, had been delayed to December.

In March, GSC Game World said development of the shooter had been put on hold due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was reported later in the same month that the development team was moving from Kyiv to Prague.

One of the company’s employees said in May that work on the game had resumed following the relocation of much of the development team.
