Square Enix unveils top-down racer Circuit Superstars
Indie game mixes arcade-style racing with a realistic driving model
Indie service provider Square Enix Collective has revealed Circuit Superstars, a new top-down racing game coming to Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC next year.
Combining arcade-style racing with a realistic driving model, it features multiple eras of racing and categories ranging from rally to GT, classic cars and trucks.
Circuit Superstars is developed by Original Fire Games, a six-person team with a background in game development and motor racing.
Original Fire Games director and producer Carolina Mastretta said: “Over the last three decades we have seen a fascinating evolution of racing games. And these days, we can drive almost any type of car on amazing recreations of the best tracks in the world. However, we believe it’s time to try something different, and we want to do this by reviving a style that pioneered the racing genre decades ago.”
Phil Elliott, director of indie publishing at Square Enix, added: “It’s one of those rare games that has charm and style, but also an edge to the handling that makes you strive to get better with each lap you drive.”
