South of Midnight is now self-published on Steam after Compulsion Games cut ties with Microsoft
Compulsion is now self-publishing South of Midnight on Steam following a listing update

Compulsion Games’ 2025 action-adventure game South of Midnight is now self-published by the studio on Steam.
The change was spotted by Respec, and can be seen on SteamDB. On August 11, 2026, the publisher on the game’s listing was changed from Xbox Game Studios to Compulsion Games.
This follows Microsoft announcing that it would cut five studios and thousands of jobs in July, of which Compulsion Games was one.

Since then, studios have thanked Xbox for allowing them to go independent, and Compulsion Games announced that it is seeking to collaborate with partners to develop new projects.
It is unknown whether console versions of South of Midnight will also become self-published by Compulsion Games, but listings on console platforms haven’t changed yet.
VGC’s Chris Scullion reviewed South of Midnight, saying, “South of Midnight is a gorgeous adventure with wonderful performances, striking visuals and solid platforming gameplay. Its combat, however, is repetitive and reductive in equal measure, letting the overall package down considerably.”
