Sources: A big PlayStation Showcase is weeks away
Sony will reportedly showcase its upcoming games ahead of Summer Game Fest
Sony is planning to showcase upcoming PlayStation games in a digital event held within the next few weeks, sources have told VGC.
According to people with knowledge of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s plans, the next big PlayStation Showcase could take place at the end of this month, or in early June, ahead of other big events planned for next month, including Summer Game Fest.
These claims are corroborated by Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb, who wrote on Monday that he believed the PlayStation event could take place during the week of May 25.
If these claims are accurate, a PlayStation event would kick off several weeks of major video game showcases, which are taking place in the absence of the cancelled E3 2023 show.
Summer Game Fest, which is billed as the “global fan celebration of what’s next in video games”, will return for its fourth year with a live kick-off show on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Promising world premieres, live gameplay demos and announcements, the show will take place in front of a live audience at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.
Following Summer Game Fest, this summer’s Xbox Games Showcase will take place on Sunday, June 11, and will begin at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CET.
It’s not clear how long the showcase will last, but it will be directly followed by a Starfield Direct presentation, offering a deep-dive into Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG.
Finally, Ubisoft will hold its annual Ubisoft Forward live event on Monday, June 12.
Following weeks of speculation, the 2023 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was cancelled last month due to what its organisers called “resourcing challenges” which meant that interested companies would not have playable demos ready.
Nintendo and Xbox had previously confirmed they would be skipping this year’s event, and PlayStation wasn’t expected to participate either.
