Sony shows off 10 minutes of Deathloop gameplay
Arkane’s time-bending shooter took centre stage during the latest State of Play presentation
Sony and Arkane Studios have given players another look at new Deathloop gameplay footage.
A new State of Play presentation broadcast today showed off nearly 10 minutes of the game in action.
The footage shows a mission that takes part several hours into the game, where the player is trying to assassinate Aleksis ‘The Wolf’ Dorsey.
It also shows off some of powers players can unlock, including Reprise, a power that lets players rewind time slightly when they die instead of having to start the day all over again.
Players can also return back to where they died previously and absorb items from their time-frozen corpse.
Deathloop was originally due to release for PS5 and PC in May, but was delayed to September 14, 2021 after developer Arkane Lyon said it was “committed to quality and preserving our team’s ambitions for Deathloop while ensuring health and safety of everyone at Arkane.”
The game is billed as a murder puzzle in which players assume the role of an assassin trapped in a time loop. To escape it, players must kill a group of eight targets before the day resets, using a range of modifiable weapons, gadgets and supernatural abilities, which carry over between time loops.
Publisher Bethesda has reiterated that Arkane’s shooter remains a PS5 console exclusive, despite Microsoft‘s acquisition of its parent company ZeniMax Media in a $7.5 billion deal.
In a recent VGC Deathloop preview, we said: “Don’t let the stylish 60s aesthetic fool you: with its brutal assassinations and play-your-way level design, Deathloop is very much a game from Arkane, the creator of Dishonored, Prey and other immersive sim hits.”
