Sony is reportedly issuing refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4

PlayStation is reportedly issuing refunds for digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 after players complained about the game’s performance on PS4.

Since the game’s release this week, frustrated users have taken to Twitter using #CyberBug2077 to call attention to the high number of graphical bugs and crashes present in the console version of the game – especially when played on the base PS4.

Social media videos show the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 taking a significant amount of time to load environments and characters, as well as suffering from graphical glitches and even some full crashes.

UPDATE: CD Projekt Red has apologised for not showing Cyberpunk 2077 running on last-gen consoles before the game’s release and said it will allow refunds for both digital and physical copies of the game.

UPDATE 2: Some Cyberpunk 2077 refund requests are being denied by PlayStation and Xbox, despite CD Projekt stating unhappy customers could get their money back.

UPDATE 3: CD Projekt has revealed that the company has no special agreement in place with Sony or Microsoft for Cyberpunk 2077 refunds.

One Reddit user claimed on Saturday that he was able to receive a refund on his digital PS4 game by calling PlayStation’s support line.

“I had to file a support claim online and sit on hold for over an hour to speak with someone, however they were quick to issue the refund and then delete the game off my library.”

Other users in the same Reddit thread claimed they were also able to get a refund by contacting PlayStation support.

One user added: “Spent an hour on the phone after being denied by Chatbot and I got my refund! Shout out to u/SirPanic12 for the advice on mentioning the game crashing and not being able to progress further. Thats pretty much all I had to say.”

Sony introduced a new PlayStation Store refund policy last year which gives users 14 days to cancel PS4 digital purchases.

The terms cover pre-ordered content, as well as released games and DLC that players have not yet started to download or stream.

In cases where the user has started to download or stream purchased content, they are not eligible for a refund unless the content is “faulty”.

CD Projekt Red released a new Cyberpunk 2077 update on Friday, which it says fixes various issues across quests, gameplay and performance. It also pledged to continue improving the game through further patches.

In VGC’s Cyberpunk 2077 review, which was based on our time with the PC version of the game, our critic called it “a stunning achievement, if you can overlook the glitches”.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X offers “the best visual quality by quite some margin” on consoles, according to a new analysis of the game’s performance on next-gen hardware.

Digital Foundry tested the open-world title running in backwards compatibility mode on Xbox Series X, Series S and PlayStation 5 and found that the Xbox versions have several advantages over the game on Sony’s console.

When played on Series X, the Xbox version of Cyberpunk 2077 offers the ability to choose between quality and performance modes – a choice that the PS5 game doesn’t.
