Sony is ending adaptor that makes PS VR work on PS5
PS VR owners have just two weeks to request crucial PS5 accessory
Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that it will soon stop supplying a PlayStation 5 adaptor that allows the original PlayStation VR headset to work on the console.
In order for PS5 owners to get the original PS VR headset to work on the console, they need to request a free adaptor for the PlayStation Camera, which is the only method of support, since PS5’s HD camera does not support the old headset.
As per SIE’s support website, as of November 26, 2024, or “until supplies last”, the PlayStation Camera adaptor will no longer be available.
The newer, PlayStation VR 2 headset for PlayStation 5 is not backwards compatible with PS4’s original PlayStation VR games, so once the PS Camera adaptor is no longer available, there will be no official option to play these games on PS5.
This summer, the PlayStation VR 2 received a significant price cut, its biggest ever, ahead of the release of PC compatibility with the device. A PC adaptor was released in August for $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and direct.playstation.com.
PS5 VR features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble) are not available when playing on PC.
Last year, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president and head of global marketing, Eric Lempel, described VR as a meaningful business for the company, but one that was yet to reach its potential.
