Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds gets its first gameplay trailer
The game sees Sonic and friends travelling through different dimensions as they race
Sega has released the first gameplay trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
The footage shows portals called Travel Rings, which appear during each race and teleport the player to different environments.
“Race across land, sea, air, space, and time in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds,” Sega‘s description reads. “Warp through Travel Rings into new dimensions where something new awaits around every twist and turn.
“Speed to victory solo or as a team in a variety of offline and online modes and compete against players from around the world.
“Build the ultimate machine to match your racing style, unlock gadgets to gain the upper hand, and unleash power-up items for the win.”
In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Sega of America’s associate PR director Thalia Piedra said the Travel Rings make for a unique gameplay mechanic.
“Travel Rings bring dramatic changes to races, transporting players from one world to a completely new location,” she explained.
“The lead racer gets to choose the CrossWorld that all players will be transported to on the second lap, allowing the environments to come alive with various track changes.
“Each CrossWorld offers a theme park-like experience with surprises around every turn, including large monsters, engaging obstacles, and tracks filled with beautiful scenery.”
Players will also be able to race on land, sea and air, much like in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and the hoverboards from Sonic Riders will also return.
Sega says the game will feature “iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega universes”, confirming that the game won’t be solely restricted to Sonic characters like the previously released Team Sonic Racing.
