Sonic and Tails are coming to Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
The pair join Jet Set Radio’s Beat as free guest characters
Sega has announced that Sonic and Tails will be playable characters in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania.
A tweet from the official Sega Twitter account revealed that the pair will be added as guest characters on all platforms.
Sonic and Tails will not be paid DLC – Sega has confirmed they will be free playable characters who are included in the game at launch and can be unlocked through normal gameplay.
This is nothing new for Sonic, who already appeared as a playable character in 2019’s Wii remake Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. Tails, however, is making his Monkey Ball debut.
Last week, Sega also confirmed that Beat from Jet Set Radio will be a playable character in the game.
Beat was one of the main protagonists in the 2000 Dreamcast action game (known in North America as Jet Grind Radio), and also starred in the 2002 Xbox sequel Jet Set Radio Future.
Sega has teased that Beat will be one of “several iconic guest characters” coming to the game, while character ‘skins’ based on classic Sega consoles like the Dreamcast, Saturn and Game Gear will also be available as DLC.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania was announced during a Nintendo Direct in June. It will contain remasters of Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2 and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe running on the same engine as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.
The game will be released on October 5 for Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5.
