Smoke and Rain confirmed as Mortal Kombat 1 fighters, alongside new Kameos
Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion will feature as Kameos
Warner Bros Games and Netherrealm have announced that both Smoke and Rain will be playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1.
A new trailer, which also included what appeared to be cinematics from the game’s campaign, focuses on Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s struggle to establish the Lin Kuei.
As well as the addition of Smoke and Rain as playable characters, it was also confirmed that Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion will be Kameo fighters, which function as assists in-game.
Kameo fighters are ‘non-canon’, according to series head Ed Boon, meaning players can use Scorpion as their main fighter and another version of Scorpion as a Kameo.
Announced in May and set for release on September 19, the game “will introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang, featuring reimagined versions of iconic characters as they’ve never been seen before”.
NetherRealm is developing the current-gen console versions of the game and overseeing development of the PC and Nintendo Switch versions, which are being handled by QLOC and Shiver Entertainment / Saber Interactive respectively.
Players who buy Mortal Kombat 1’s Premium Edition or Kollector’s Edition will get early access to the game beginning on September 14.
These two editions of the game also include a Kombat Pack offering early access to six new playable characters.
Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC offering was seemingly leaked via an Amazon Italy product listing earlier this year.
The DLC fighters will be Quan Chi, Omni Man, Ermac, Takeda, Peacemaker and Homelander ,according to the listing.
All Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders will grant players Shang Tsung as an in-game playable character, and players who pre-order for PS5 or Xbox Series X/S will receive access to a Mortal Kombat 1 beta in August.
