Smash Bros. players can unlock the Sephiroth DLC now ahead of its official release date
Complete an in-game challenge to get early access to the new content
Nintendo has announced a release date for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s latest DLC fighter, Final Fantasy’s Sephiroth.
Revealed at the Game Awards this month, the character will officially launch on December 22 (December 23 in the UK) as part Fighters Pass Vol. 2 – Challenger Pack 8, which also includes a new stage based on the Northern Cave setting and nine music tracks.
However, players who pre-order the DLC can now participate in a special in-game Sephiroth boss battle challenge. Completing it on any difficulty level will unlock all of the new content ahead of its official release.
Challenger Pack 8 can be purchased for $5.99/£5.39/€5.99 individually or as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2, which costs $29.99/£26.99/€29.99 and also includes Min Min from ARMS, Steve & Alex from Minecraft, and three yet-to-be announced fighters.
Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai provided an in-depth look at Sephiroth’s move set, new stage and other content in the video above, which was released on Thursday.
Sakurai has said that the current DLC Fighters Pass is likely to be the game’s last, and that he feels there’s “no way” Smash Bros. will be able to have as many fighters or series represented again in future games.
