Sledgehammer Games is reportedly developing Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2

Sledgehammer Games is reportedly working on a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

That’s according to Ralph Valve, an insider who has accurately leaked information about Activision’s blockbuster FPS series in the past.

In a report for What If Gaming, Valve claims Sledgehammer will revisit the futuristic combat of 2014’s Advanced Warfare following the relatively poor performance of its most recent series entry, which was last year’s World War 2 game Call of Duty Vanguard.

Sci-fi shooter Advanced Warfare shook up Call of Duty’s traditional ‘boots-on-the-ground’ gameplay with the introduction of Exo Suits that gave players advanced strength and mobility, including moves like Boost Jump, Boost Dash and Boost Slam.

‘Boots-off-the-ground’ gameplay also featured in 2015’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, before the series reverted to more traditional combat in Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: WWII in 2017 and subsequent series entries.

Valve claims that Call of Duty Advanced Warfare 2 is slated for release in 2025, when Sledgehammer could also bring a futuristic twist to battle royale game Call of Duty Warzone.

This year’s series entry, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, is expected to be followed by a new game from Black Ops developer Treyarch, which may not arrive until 2024.

The Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, but players who pre-order the digital version of the game will be granted early access to its campaign on October 20.

Publisher Activision recently confirmed a Warzone 2 release date of November 16, which will also mark the start of Modern Warfare 2’s first season of live content.
