Sega unveils new Like A Dragon game, ‘Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’
Goro Majima returns for the series’ latest spin-off
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
Announced during a live stream on Friday, the game will release on February 28, 2025 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
The game is an action adventure title – not an RPG like recent spin-offs – starring the popular recurring character, Goro Majima, in a story which appears to follow directly from Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
“Goro Majima, a notorious ex-yakuza suddenly finds himself shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific,” a synopsis for the game reads.
“Unable to remember even his own name, he sets sail in search of clues to his lost memories, accompanied by a boy named Noah who saved his life. Before long, they’re caught up in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure.”
Players will be able to assemble a crew, upgrade their pirate ship, battle other ships, and sail the open sea to discover locations such as Hawaii (introduced in Infinite Wealth), Rich Island (a small, isolated island), and Madlantis (a ship graveyard where dangerous pirates gather).
“This might look a little bit quirky at first look, but don’t worry, it will contain the hot drama and exhilarating action that’s typical in Yakuza games,” producer Ryosuke Horii said during the live stream. “There’s still a ton of unannounced information.”
“For the first time, Goro Majima is the sole protagonist in this game,” he added. “The battle design is very different. It’s fast-paced, and it has a lot of Majima’s uniqueness – that’s what we aimed for.”
For the first time in the series, you can jump during battles. Players will also be able to switch freely between two battle styles: Mad Dog, and Sea Dog. The former is a fast-paced Yakuza-style combat style, while the latter allows players to dual-wield cutlasses and use special side arms such as a firearm and chain hook.
Pirate Yakuza will include mini-games such as Crazy Delivery, Dragon Kart, Outfits, and Karaoke. The game will also feature new live-action content called Masura’s Love Journey, RGG revealed.
The latest entry in the Like A Dragon franchise, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, was released earlier this year to widespread acclaim.
A live-action version of Like a Dragon: Yazkua is set to come to Amazon Prime Video.
The live-action series will consist of six episodes, with the first three releasing on October 25 and the final three releasing on November 1.
