Sega Mega Drive Mini: 10 more games confirmed
Including Streets of Rage 2, Earthworm Jim, Castle of Illusion, Sonic 2
Update: Sega has now revealed the complete line-up of Sega Mega Drive Mini games.
Sega has revealed ten more games that will come pre-loaded on its upcoming miniature retro console, Sega Mega Drive Mini.
The latest confirmed titles for the system are Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, World of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Thunder Force 3, Super Fantasy Zone, Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master, Streets of Rage 2, Earthworm Jim, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Contra: Hard Corps, and Landstalker.
Sega announced Mega Drive Mini (Sega Genesis Mini in the US) in April 2018 and had originally planned to launch the system last year to coincide with the Mega Drive’s 30th anniversary in Japan.
Available to pre-order for $80/£70, the plug in and play console will come with 40 games when it launches on September 19, 2019.
The first ten titles to be announced for the console were Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Space Harrier 2, Shining Force, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Machine, ToeJam & Earl, Comix Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, and Gunstar Heroes.
The Mega Drive Mini comes with two wired three-button control pads, a USB power adaptor, plus power and HDMI cables.
Nintendo launched miniature NES and SNES consoles in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and it claimed in October 2018 that combined sales of the systems had surpassed 10 million units.
Sony also launched its PlayStation Classic mini console in December 2018, while Capcom is set to release Capcom Home Arcade on October 25, 2019.
Priced at £199.99/€229.99 (about $260), the plug in and play system comes in the form of a sizeable arcade stick shaped like the Capcom logo, which is pre-loaded with 16 classic arcade games.
They include 1944: The Loop Master, Alien vs. Predator, Armored Warriors, Capcom Sports Club, Captain Commando, Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness, Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Eco Fighters, Final Fight, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Gigawing, Mega Man: The Power Battle, Progear, Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting, Strider, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
