Sega has revealed the ‘palm-sized’ Game Gear Micro
$50 micro-console to come in four variants and release in Japan this October
Sega has announced the ‘palm-sized’ Game Gear Micro console.
The micro version of the 1990 handheld measures 80mm wide, 43mm tall, and 20mm deep with a 1.15-inch display, and will launch in Japan on October 6 for ¥4,980 (around $50 / €50).
The micro console features a mono speaker, headphone jack, and is powered by either two AAA batteries or a USB cable.
In Japan, the Game Gear Micro will be available in blue, yellow, red and black, with each variant including a different collection of games:
- Black: Sonic the Hedgehog, Out Run, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Royal Stone
- Yellow: Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining Force: Final Conflict, Nazo Puyo
- Blue: Sonic & Tails, Baku Baku Animal, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale
- Red: Columns, G.G. Shinobi, Megami Tensei Gaiden, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
For those who purchase a special four-console set (¥29,980), a “Big Window Micro” accessory will be included, based on the peripheral of the same name released for the original handheld.
There’s no word on a Western release yet, although the recent Mega Drive Mini was released worldwide in 2019.
