Sea of Thieves has now attracted over 15 million players
More than one million copies sold on Steam as the game records its biggest month yet
Microsoft says Sea of Thieves has been played by over 15 million players since launch.
That’s up from 10 million announced in January, cementing the game’s place as “the most successful new IP from Xbox this generation”.
The pirate-themed co-op multiplayer game released for Xbox One and PC in March 2018, when it became the first exclusive title from Microsoft to launch on Xbox Game Pass day-and-date with its retail release.
June 2020 was Sea of Thieves’ biggest month yet, with the game reaching over 3.3 million players.
The title has sold over 1 million copies since releasing on Steam on June 3, 2020.
“On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far,” Rare executive producer Joe Neate told Xbox Wire. “It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come.”
Rare is also working on a “truly original” new IP set in a “natural and magical world” called Everwild.
Officially announced at Microsoft’s X019 event, VGC understands it’s an ambitious third-person adventure title with god game elements.
