Scott Pilgrim’s physical release ‘is Limited Run’s biggest game ever’
Distributor claims the Switch version alone sold 40,000 copies on its first day
A special physical release of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – Complete Edition is already Limited Run Games‘ biggest release ever, it’s claimed.
Limited Run is a US-based game distributor which specialises in releasing digital games in physical media, with the games being sold on its website in limited quantities.
According to the company’s founder Douglas Bogart, Scott Pilgrim became its record seller just hours after its release on Friday, selling 40,000 copies Switch alone.
The game had sold 25,000 of those in less than three hours. “Thank you so much for your support in making this our biggest release of all time,” Bogart wrote.
Limited Run Games will be selling Switch and PS4 versions of Scott Pilgrim for the next six weeks, including a standard edition for $34.99, classic edition for $54.99, and the K.O edition at $139.99.
The Ubisoft title’s success is likely due to the fact that its original 2010 version was unavailable for purchase for more than six years, after it was delisted in 2014 due to the license expiring.
If players opted out of purchasing and downloading the game before it was delisted, there was no legal way to do so before now.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition, which includes include the Knives Chau and Wallace Wells add-on packs, released digitally for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Stadia on January 14.
In VGC’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition review, critic Chris Scullion said the re-release had little in the way of new content, “but it’s a testament to the game’s quality that it still stands tall as one of the better examples.”
