Scarlet Nexus could be a day one Xbox Game Pass release, it’s claimed
Bandai Namco’s anime action game is due out later this month
Bandai Namco’s science fiction RPG Scarlet Nexus could be a day one Xbox Game Pass release, it’s been claimed.
That’s according to Games Beat journalist Jeff Grubb, who commented on a recent XboxEra podcast that he’d heard that Microsoft had secured the title for its subscription service.
Revealed in May 2020 during the first Xbox Series X gameplay showcase, Scarlet Nexus takes place in a distant future in which a group of psionic soldiers called the OSF represents humanity’s last hope in a battle against brain-eating mutants known as Others.
UPDATE: Bandai Namco has denied reports it’s set to bring its upcoming science-fiction RPG Scarlet Nexus to Xbox Game Pass.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: The game is due to release in just a few weeks, on June 25.
“I think that’s a Game Pass day one game, is what I heard,” Grubb said of Scarlet Nexus. “The thing about Game Pass day one deals, especially for anything that’s relatively big, those deals get made very, very late.
“The Outriders deal probably got made a couple of weeks before we heard about it, maybe even a week before we heard about it… and we heard about it, what, a month before it came out? Or a couple of weeks before it came out.
“So that’s how close to the end that they cut it, and I think it’s just because everyone wants to fully understand their metrics before they commit anything to paper and say, ‘yeah, we’re going to do this’.
“Scarlet Nexus might be on the tier down where it’s like, Microsoft is probably going to give you quite a bit of money to get this cool anime game that people seem to like, and it’s probably more than you’ll get otherwise, and you’re still going to get sales because we see that these games till sell.
“So I think they might have secured this one, yeah.”
VGC has asked Bandai Namco for comment on this story.
In a recent Scarlet Nexus hands-on preview, VGC’s Chris Scullion said the title was “shaping up to be a solid anime action game”.
“It’s fair to say some of the trailers have been a little confusing, and while it’s clear it’s another third-person action game from the makers of Code Vein and God Eater, questions remain around how it actually plays,” he said.
“Well, we recently went hands-on with the game’s first few hours and can finally shed some light on what you can expect from Bandai Namco‘s latest.
“In our video above, we explain how the combat mechanics work in Scarlet Nexus, as well as other features like psychokinesis, the bond system and the differences between the two protagonists.”
