Retailer lists ‘V2’ PS5 DualSense with improved battery life

A ‘V2’ version of the PS5’s DualSense controller has been spotted at a retailer.

According to the Walmart Canada listing, the new first-party controller will come bundled with a DualSense charging station and sport “exceptional” 12-hour battery life, allowing “long gaming sessions”.

According to the listing, the ‘V2’ DualSense will have the same price as its predecessor at $89.99 CAD, and the same dimensions.

If authentic, this new controller would be a significant improvement on the original, which includes a 1,560 mAh battery and lasts around six hours in demanding titles which use all of its features.

The more premium DualSense Egde controller, disappointingly for users, uses the same battery as the original DualSense and stays powered for even less time.

VGC has asked Sony for comment on this story.

In November, all DualSense controller colours were put on sale for Black Friday, potentially to clear stock. That included the first price reductions for the recently introduced DualSense metal colours.

Special edition controllers, such as the recent Spider-Man DualSense or the Hogwarts Legacy DualSense, weren’t included in the deals.

The DualSense Edge controller launched last year with a recommended retail price of $199.99 / £209.99 / €239.99.

At that price, DualSense Edge was never going to appeal to everyone, we wrote in VGC’s review. “But for competitive players, the quality of its build, slick software integration and the huge amount of customisation options means it’s undoubtedly the most premium PS5 controller you can buy.

“For everyone else, it’s far from essential, especially if you don’t play competitive games or desire customisation beyond what the original DualSense is capable of.”
