Respawn is recruiting for a single-player FPS set in the Apex Legends universe
Job ads describe the title as “a brand new Respawn single-player adventure”
Jedi: Fallen Order and Titanfall studio Respawn is working on a new single-player FPS set in the Apex Legends universe, jobs ads have revealed.
As spotted by Dexerto, several job listings for Respawn’s “Apex Universe FPS incubation project” have appeared, describing the in-development game as “a brand new Respawn single-player adventure”.
“This new single-player title is a developer’s dream playground with the freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits,” one job ad reads.
It’s unclear if the project is related to the unannounced single-player project Respawn first confirmed it was working on last year.
According to a GamesBeat report earlier this year, that title is a first-person shooter being built around the guiding principles of “mobility” and “style” – but it isn’t a Titanfall sequel.
Job ads previously billed it as “a designer’s dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe”.
In January it was revealed that the unannounced game’s former creative director, Mohammad Alavi, had left Respawn.
He was previously a senior designer for the Titanfall series and narrative design director for Apex Legends, and also designed iconic Call of Duty missions including ‘All Ghillied Up’ while at Infinity Ward.
Respawn’s parent company Electronic Arts also announced this year that the studio is working on three Star Wars projects.
One is a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor. Another is a new Star Wars first-person shooter game is being helmed by former LucasArts veteran and Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann.
Respawn’s third Star Wars project is a strategy game developed through a production collaboration with Bit Reactor, which is a new studio formed by veterans of XCOM and Civilization studio Firaxis Games.
