Resogun studio Housemarque debuts PS5 original Returnal
Sci-fi title features ‘evolving planet’
Resogun studio Housemarque has announced Returnal for PlayStation 5.
The original IP was shown during a PS5 reveal event on Thursday and features a sci-fi setting and a planet which evolves each time the game’s protagonist dies.
Earlier this year Housemarque announced it had put all other projects on hold to focus on an unannounced new game, said to be its most significant undertaking to date.
A team of 80 people is developing Housemarque’s upcoming title, it said, which has been in the works for almost three years.
The veteran developer behind Resogun and Super Stardust turns 25 this summer and in a blog post celebrating the upcoming anniversary, CEO Ilari Kuittinen said it would be a milestone year for the company.
“So now we are focused on delivering our most ambitious and biggest game to date, putting every other project on hold, including the development of Stormdivers,” Kuittinen said.
“It is great that the whole company can come together to deliver this game, which will define the next evolution of Housemarque.”
While it has developed for Xbox and PC, Housemarque has a long history of releasing games published by Sony for PlayStation platforms, including PS4 launch title Resogun.
