Resident Evil 4’s VR version gets new footage and a release date
The Oculus Quest 2 exclusive is out next month
Capcom and Oculus have released the first extensive gameplay footage for Resident Evil 4 VR.
The VR version of the survival horror classic was first announced earlier this year. The game is being developed by Armature (ReCore) and will be exclusive to Oculus Quest 2.
On Monday, Capcom confirmed an October 21 release date for Resident Evil 4 VR alongside a new trailer. In addition, IGN has published its own gameplay footage showing the VR version in action.
Resident Evil 4 VR supports both full-motion movement and teleportation travel, according to the publication.
“One of the biggest changes to RE4 in VR is how items are managed,” it said. “You’ll now be able to draw your weapons and items directly from your virtual body, whether that’s reaching to your belt for a gun, or pulling a health item from your left shoulder.
“Entire puzzles and other objects, like the typewriter you use to save, have been recreated in VR to be fully interactive as well.”
2005’s Resident Evil 4 is Capcom’s highest-rated game of all-time, according to review aggregation site Metacritic, with sales totalling 10.4 million copies across various platforms.
As first reported by VGC last year, the Resident Evil 4 remake has been in development since 2018 led by Osaka-based M-Two, the studio founded by former PlatinumGames head Tatsuya Minami.
More recently, sources told VGC that M-Two had seen its role significantly reduced on the unannounced project and mainline Resident Evil studio Capcom Division 1 brought in to lead a new direction.
