Remedy’s Control is coming to Xbox Game Pass, says Phil Spencer
Update: Publisher 505 denies the Xbox head’s claims
Control is coming to Xbox Games Pass, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer.
The executive revealed plans to release the title on Microsoft’s subscription service when asked about his favourite games of the year during an Extra Life Mixer stream.
“I thought Control was really good,” he said. “It didn’t reach enough people so I’m glad to see that it’s coming into Game Pass, so hopefully more people will play it because it’s a game that should be played from our friends at Remedy, we love Remedy.”
Spencer didn’t provide a timeline for Control’s Xbox Game Pass release, or say whether it will be available to both Xbox One and PC subscribers.
[UPDATE: Control publisher 505 has denied Phil Spencer‘s claims, telling VGC in a statement: “The information about Control coming to Xbox Game Pass as reported on a recent Mixer stream is incorrect. We have no news or announcements regarding Xbox Game Pass at this time.”]
The supernatural action adventure game released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC as an Epic Games store exclusive in August. VGC’s Control review called the game “Remedy’s finest creation since the original Max Payne”.
Control DLC will include the release of two paid expansions, The Foundation and AWE, featuring new story missions, teams, mechanics and locations.
They’ll be available to purchase individually at launch or as part of a season pass. The Foundation will launch first on PS4, while AWE will release on all platforms on the same date.
Game director Mikael Kasurinen detailed the making of Control in a VGC feature published earlier this year.
Microsoft announced the next wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass for console and PC on Wednesday.
