A remake of Dreamcast rail shooter Rainbow Cotton is set to release in May.

The game was originally released on Sega‘s console in January 2000, but only made it to Japan.

Remade by retro specialist ININ, the game will now be getting a western release for the first time, and is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam on May 9.

Rainbow Cotton is the fifth game in the Cotton series of shoot ’em ups, which were initally developed by Japanese studio Success.

Whereas some Cotton games are side-scrolling shooters, Rainbow Cotton is instead a rail shooter similar to Sega’s Panzer Dragoon.

Players control the titular Cotton, a young witch who’s been tasked with flying across the land on her broomstick in search of the evil demon Tweed, who’s stolen a legendary Willow candy.

The game lets players look around in 360 degrees, and Cotton can level up her attacks by collecting crystals. Her broomstick has its own energy bar, and if it runs out she has to continue on foot.

ININ focuses mainly on publishing retro re-releases and modern games with a retro style. In the past it focused mainly on PlayStation, Switch and PC but in December it released six of its previous titles on Xbox, and said more would be coming to Microsoft‘s console in the future.
