Reference to The Goonies ‘found in Multiversus code’

A string of code in a new Multiversus update reportedly references “Goonies,” leading to speculation that characters based on the film could be added to the game in future.

Posted to Twitter by @multiversusie, a user in a Multiversus discord appears to have found the string of code that references Goonies.

Crucially, this is a Character Universe code, which is how the game group characters from certain franchises. For example, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are tagged with the DC Character Universe code.

A whole Character Universe code for Goonies could suggest that more than one character could be set to appear, or simply one new fighter that occupies the slot itself.

The Goonies is an adventure comedy film released in 1985, directed by Richard Donner. The film follows a group of kids that go on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves.

This wouldn’t be the first time that future Multiversus content was found via strings of code or uncovered files.

Audio files reportedly datamined in MultiVersus appear to suggest that the Joker is coming to the game, and will be voiced by Mark Hamill. Another datamine of a recent update also uncovered voice lines for Beetlejuice and the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz, suggesting they may be added during Season 1 too.
