Insomniac Games kicked off a Ratchet & Clank marketing campaign on Monday which saw the platformer crossover with other PlayStation brands such as Sly Cooper and Horizon Zero Dawn.

The social media posting concluded with the reveal of Rift Apart’s RYNO 8, a weapon that can pull items and characters from other PlayStation games into the PS5 platformer, by creating a portal to a different universe.

The examples used on Twitter include a jeep from Uncharted 4, a Thunderjaw from Horizon Zero Dawn and Fizzie from previous Xbox exclusive Sunset Overdrive.

Sunset Overdrive was a rare foray into Xbox development for Insomniac, which had spent almost all of its 20-year existence working on PlayStation. Following the huge success of Marvel’s Spider-Man, the studio was acquired by Sony in 2019.

Insomniac has previously claimed that it owns the Sunset Overdrive IP, but the original game remains an Xbox One console exclusive (it released on PC in 2018).

Rift Apart is billed as an “interdimensional adventure” that uses the PS5’s SSD to rapidly transport players between different locations.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is scheduled for release on June 11, 2021. The standard version of the game costs $69.99 / £69.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition is priced at $79.99 / £79.99.

The latter comes with the base game plus five additional armour sets, 20 Raritanium to put towards upgrading weapons, a sticker pack to use in the franchise’s first ever photo mode, a digital artbook and a digital soundtrack.

Sony debuted 16 minutes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay during a State of Play presentation in late April.
