Physical versions of Double Fine’s game listed on Amazon
Physical versions of Psychonauts 2 are currently being listed on Amazon, pointing towards a potential boxed release for the game later this year.
According to Amazon Germany listings, Double Fine’s game will be released physically for Xbox One/Xbox Series X and PS4 on September 27, 2022.
The Psychonauts 2: Motherlobe version will seemingly cost €69.99 and be published by Skybound.

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: The sequel to 2005’s Psychonauts was revealed at The Game Awards in 2015, with Double Fine going on to raise over $3.8 million on crowdfunding platform Fig to help develop the title for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox One.
Following a series of delays, Psychonauts 2 was eventually released digitally for PC and consoles in August 2021, with the game also optimised for Xbox Series X/S. Mac and Linux versions followed in May 2022.
While there was no physical retail release for the game, some Fig backers were able to secure a boxed copy when the project was crowdfunded.
Double Fine, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2019, is working on multiple new projects after moving on from Psychonauts 2.
“The studio is already splitting up into various teams and starting different projects that we think you’ll enjoy,” it said last December.
“We like experimentation here at Double Fine. Every game is a chance to explore new ideas, new visual styles or gameplay, emotions, and more.”
Double Fine boss Tim Schafer also said last year that the studio wants to work on something original and “completely surprising”.
