PS5’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is still in development, studio confirms
Nothing has been seen of the PlayStation game since its announcement years ago

PS5’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is still in development, developer Saber Interactive has reiterated.
Since it was announced in September 2021 as a timed PS5 console exclusive, nothing has been seen of the KoTOR remake, and there have been conflicting reports about whether it remains in active development.
Embracer-owned studios Aspyr and Saber Interactive were both confirmed to be working on the game in May 2022, and it was later claimed that Space Marine 2 developer Saber had taken over development of the remake. Saber split from Embracer last year.
Following claims that development of the KoTOR remake had stopped, Saber CEO Matthew Karch told press the game was “alive and well” last April.
Now, following another year of silence around the project, Karch has again reiterated that the Star Wars game is being worked on. Speaking to Game File, the exec said that KoTOR is still in development, but claimed he could not say more.
A PR rep then explained that Saber wants to allow Star Wars owner Disney to take the lead in talking about games tied to that company’s characters.
This week, Saber COO Tim Willits also suggested on social media that KoTOR was still being worked on.
“Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world,” he wrote. “We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.”
Released in 2003, Knights of the Old Republic is a fan-favourite RPG from BioWare which tells a Jedi versus Sith story set some 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire featured in 1977’s Star Wars film.
Obsidian created a sequel, The Sith Lords, in 2004 and there hasn’t been a mainline Knights of the Old Republic game in the 20 years since (unless you count EA’s 2011 MMO The Old Republic).
