PS5 will soon let players join Discord voice chat directly from console
The ability to share PlayStation Network profiles on messaging and social apps is also coming
Sony is rolling out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chat directly from their console.
It means players will no longer need to rely on the Discord PC or mobile apps to start the connection.
To join a chat from PS5, players will need to select the Discord tab in Game Base in the console’s control centre and choose the server or DM group they want to join.
Update
The latest PS5 system update is available now, introducing new Discord and child account features. Pulse audio accessories and the PlayStation Link USB adapter have also been updated to boost connection stability.
Players will also get a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls them, enabling them to join right away.
Sony said the feature “will gradually roll out over the coming weeks, starting with players in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and the Middle East, and finally the Americas”.
Beginning next week, it’s also adding the ability for players to share their PlayStation Network profile “on any messaging or social app”.
Players will be able to generate a shareable link or QR code from PS5 or the PlayStation App. Once opened, recipients will have the option to add the sender as a friend when they next sign-in to PlayStation Network.
Sony revealed June’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and Classics titles on Wednesday.
This month’s additions to the subscription service include Monster Hunter Rise, Football Manager 2024, Crusader Kings 3, After Us and Daxter.
