PS5 DualSense Edge video shows how Sony designed the $200 pad
The customisable controller has less battery life than the original DualSense
Sony has released a video showing how it designed PS5’s upcoming DualSense Edge controller, which is viewable below.
“Offering a behind the scenes look at how PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller was created, the video shares insights into what inspired the controller’s form factor and feature-set,” the platform holder said.
“Additionally, it gives a first look at how the PS5 console’s user interface will enable deeper levels of customization of the controller.”
DualSense Edge will launch globally on January 26, 2023 with a recommended retail price of $199.99 USD / £209.99 / €239.99. Replaceable stick modules will be released on the same date priced at $19.99 USD / £19.99 / €24.99.
In the US, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, the DualSense Edge wireless controller and replaceable stick modules are currently available for pre-order only through PlayStation Direct.
They will be available to purchase at other participating retailers starting on February 23, 2023.
After The Verge went hands-on with DualSense Edge, Sony confirmed to the site that the controller has less battery life than the original DualSense controller.
“The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller because we’ve included many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller,” a spokesperson said.
“We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high-performance features. Additionally, the longer USB braided cable is also great for competitive players who prefer playing with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference – this option preserves battery life.”
