Sony has released a PlayStation 5 update which lets players customize aspects of the console’s design based on different console generations.
Coinciding with PlayStation’s 30th anniversary on December 3, the update adds PS1’s boot-up as part of its new start-up sequence.
As seen in the video below, players can also customize some visual and audio features by selecting from PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, standard PS5 or 30th Anniversary themes.
“For a limited time, you can change parts of the PS5 design based on your favorite generation of PlayStation,” Sony said. “Select a design to apply to your home screen and other areas.”

Sony has also released a 30th Anniversary ‘Thank You’ video, which is viewable below.
“For the past three decades, we’ve shared an incredible journey, building stories and shaping experiences together,” reads the description accompanying the video. “Along the way, we’ve found adventure, laughter, and lasting memories that go far beyond any one moment.
“We’ve forged new friendships and redefined what gaming is all about. Thank you for being part of this journey — we couldn’t have done it without you.”
Sony recently updated PlayStation’s website with a timeline chronicling 30 years of the iconic gaming brand.
Last month it also launched PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Collection, which includes grey PS5 Digital and PS5 Pro consoles.
Sony is reportedly gearing up to release black versions of the DualSense Edge controller, Pulse Elite wireless headphones and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds.
A PS5 DualSense controller with a Helldivers 2 theme is also reportedly coming soon.
